A $300,000 grant paid over three years to the UAB School of Nursing to help bring the Nurse Family Partnership to Jefferson County. Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) is a national, evidence-based, nurse home visiting program that improves the health, well-being, and self-sufficiency of low-income 1st time parents and their children for the first two years of the child’s life. By connecting these parents with a trusted public health nurse, NFP empowers long-lasting change. NFP is the most rigorously tested program of its kind. A grant of $90,000 over 3 years to pilot a national program with a mission to revitalize emerging American cities and communities through entrepreneurship. Venture for America recruits and currently supports a diverse set of 15 top-tier college graduates to partner with early-mid level startups in Birmingham for two years. A Partnership Grant of $1,000,000 over five years to support the capital campaign for the Center for Food Education which will be located at the current downtown Birmingham farm location. The multi-use venues of the Center will allow JVTF to conduct field trips and daily Good School Food instruction simultaneously and expand its culinary programming. The facility will become a training site and a hub for replicating and selling Good School Food plans and curriculum. This grant will also allow Jones Valley Teaching Farm to take advantage of New Market Tax Credit opportunities recently presented to the organization as well as inspire and set the pace for other lead donors to invest in JVTF’s mission.

The Zoo is the largest tourist attraction in our state. The grant of $250,000 over five years will support the design and construction of a new half-acre Entry Plaza, a one-acre Orientation Plaza, and a 3,000 square-foot gift shop and contemporary educational/flexible meeting space. In addition, visuals will engage and connect guests to the Zoo’s mission, “Inspiring Passion for the Natural World.”
